One of the most important self esteem lessons for kids is to teach them that they have a special gift. We are all born with something that we are good at, it could be the gift of communication, it could be the gift of being able to analyse and evaluate things, it could be artistic gifts like drawing or playing an instrument, it could be the gift of humour and entertainment, it could be an athletic gift. We all have talents and special gifts.

It's important to let kids know that they have talents, that they are gifted, that they have something to offer to the world, this will greatly aid their self esteem development.

Every child needs to know that there is something about them that makes them unique and special. The ability to recognise and express your gift is so crucial to our self esteem and confidence, even as adults. We feel better about ourselves when we are using our talents, gifts, skills and abilities to make the world a better place.

Kids that discover their gifts early and start to use them, tend to develop into confident and successful adults who have a sense of purpose and direction for their life. Such kids tend to stay out of trouble and are more likely to be achievers.

Another reason why this is one of the most important self esteem lessons for kids is that, in life we are generally happier when we are actively doing the things we enjoy and are good at. The difference between the person that loves their job and the person that hates their job is usually that, the person who loves their job is working in the area of their gift.

When we help kids to discover and develop their gifts, we are essentially setting them up to become successful and happy adults, that will live a wholesome and fulfilling life.

It's important to let kids know that they are good at something, it will contribute towards giving them a sense of significance, which is one of the basic human needs according to Maslows hierarchy of needs. Everybody wants to know that they are needed, that their life counts for something. It is one of the most essential self esteem lessons for kids.
